- Plus, some light-hearted content because parenting can be rough IYKYK
As parents, we take great care when choosing the safest car seat, the gentlest baby bottle, or finding a trusted babysitter. But what resources do we have to help us understand the bigger picture—the forces shaping the world our children will inherit?
As parents, we have a great deal at stake. What happens, or fails to happen, in today's world will profoundly affect their future. As a well-informed parent, you can champion change on the issues that matter most to you and your family.
About Me
I’m a mother of three, and like every parent, my kids are at the heart of everything I do. Every major decision I’ve made since having children has been with their future in mind.

Before becoming a parent, I spent over a decade as a journalist, mostly at NBC News, covering politics for the network’s political unit and the TODAY show. My world revolved around deadlines, breaking stories, and the relentless pace of the news cycle. There was little room for the already elusive "balance."

But stepping away from that world to focus on raising my children taught me two important lessons about the news and how it serves the public—or, rather, how it often doesn’t.
First, staying informed as a parent is hard. Time is scarce, and so is energy. Morning news is on while you’re trying to get everyone fed and out the door. The evening news? That’s smack in the middle of homework, dinner, and bedtime. Cable news can feel like a frustrating echo chamber, and honestly, by the time you get a moment to yourself, reading the news is the last thing on your mind.

I quickly realized how overwhelming it can be to stay engaged. Modern media moves so fast that if you miss even a day, it’s easy to fall out of the loop. And trying to jump back in can feel impossible when you’re not fully immersed. It made me understand that news organizations aren’t doing enough to meet people—especially parents—where they are.

The second thing I learned is that journalism, as practiced today, isn’t always living up to its responsibility. I believe deeply in the role of a free press in protecting democracy and seeking out the truth, but corporate interests and “both sides” journalism often muddy the waters. The press is supposed to serve the public, not corporations, and it’s failing us when it doesn’t.
I wanted to return to journalism on my terms to create a meaningful and useful resource that truly served parents. This is the resource I wish I'd had when I was in the throes of parenting young children.
My goal is to make staying informed simpler, so you can focus on your family while still knowing what’s happening in the world that impacts them.
Parents have a lot at stake in this world. And yet, we often have little time and energy to keep up with what’s happening in the world our kids are growing up in.
I’m passionate about this work, and I believe in it now more than ever.
